Our Review of the Jurassic World Live Tour Show

On Friday night, we were invited to the pre-show experience of Jurassic World Live Tour and had the opportunity to watch the show afterwards at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL.

Charlie and Luke in the Gyrosphere

During the pre-show, we were able to get up close to some of the show’s props….like the jeep and the Gyrosphere (which was recreated for the show) on the arena floor! We even got to meet the performers and actors of the show and came pretty close to a dinosaur – Blue the Raptor. Luke got to experience how the performers operate the dinosaurs. It was such a cool behind the scenes experience!

The Jurassic World Live Tour was only in Chicago from November 1 – 3. Sorry if I’m posting this when the show is already over for my Chicago readers. But you can check out the other cities on the tour here.

Okay now on to our Jurassic World Live Tour review!

Before going to the show, we saw the photos and videos of the show on their Instagram page. So we were already excited. The live show did not disappoint!

The Storyline

I don’t want to give away the storyline. It’s not exactly like the one in the movie but I think it still worked. I liked the storyline very much and the fact that one of the lead characters (besides the dinosaurs) is a very strong and smart female.

The Effects

The effects were phenomenal! Even the screen with the video playing in the back got your imagination flowing. Certain scenes had fog, one had fire, and a fun one had a motorcycle chase. There were some scenes that were intense with the sound. Visually, I think the producers did a great job!

The Dinosaurs

Even if you’re not a fan of the Jurassic franchise, I think seeing how incredible the dinosaurs looked is enough to go. They looked so real!! To be honest, I got excited when the T-Rex came out during the show. For the smaller dinosaurs like the Raptor and Stegosaurus, there were performers inside the costumes (each dinosaur weighing about 120 pounds). I don’t know how these performers did it but you could hardly tell that there were humans under those dinosaurs.

Things You Should Consider Before Going to the Show

I posted to on my Instagram Stories during the pre-show preview and the actual show and got lots of questions about the show. So I figured I would also share my answers on the blog.

Age – Although the website says the show is good for any age, I think the best ages are from 3 and up. I think they would really appreciate it more.

Intensity – Some followers asked if the show was too intense for their kids. I based this on Luke’s reaction and feedback. He said he wasn’t scared during the show but thought that some scenes were very loud. There are are some fight scenes but we didn’t think they were violent in nature.

Duration – The show is 1 hour and 45 minutes, which includes a 15 minute intermission.

Overall, I think the show ran at a very good pace. It didn’t feel slow but didn’t try to include so many things in at once where you get confused. We were blown away by how elaborate it was. I got excited each time I saw a dinosaur come on to the scene! Luke, who is 7 years old, loved it, even though he told us he grew out of dinosaurs. I think this show may have reintroduced him to his love for dinosaurs again!
