I’m not sure if I mentioned this before but Luke loves staying in hotels. Maybe because he’s been traveling since he was six months old or maybe because every kid loves to stay somewhere different than their own homes.
So a few weeks ago, we decided to do a staycation at the Kimpton Palomar in downtown Chicago. The hotel is situated in the center of the River North neighborhood that is close to shopping, dining, and a short trolley ride to Navy Pier.
After we checked in, Luke immediately took his shoes off and jumped on the bed. Then he checked out the bathroom, of course! What we loved most about our room were the views, the fun floors and the comfortable bed! Here’s a recap of the fun things we did.
WE RELAXED AND ENJOYED THE COMFORTABLE ROOM
There’s no right or wrong way to do a staycation. But for me, I use it as a way to slow down and pretend we are on vacation, without all the stress. Since we know our way around Chicago, it doesn’t mean we have to go do all the sightseeing. A good staycation for me is spending time with the family and just hanging out.
Thanks to the Kimpton Palomar for providing Luke with a kiddie bag and a “C is for Chicago” book. He loved reading that book while in the hotel room.
WE HAD BRUNCH AT SABLE KITCHEN & BAR
It was so convenient that the hotel restaurant, Sable Kitchen & Bar, is located on the first floor of the hotel. They had great options for kids on the menu. A highlight for Luke was that they had fresh bagels. For some reason, he’s been obsessed with bagels and all he wanted that morning was bagels. I’ve been obsessed with acai bowls since we went to Hawaii a few years ago and was so happy to see they had it on their menu!
WE ENJOYED THE HOTEL’S INDOOR POOL WITH THE BEST VIEWS
Luke has been taking swimming lessons for the past two years and loves the “pool” life. So we had to check out the hotel’s indoor pool, which has gorgeous views of the city. Luke loved jumping in the pool and even made friends with a few other kids there. He didn’t want to leave when we told him it was time to go.
WE TOOK THE TROLLEY TO NAVY PIER AND TOOK A RIDE ON THE CENTENNIAL WHEEL
The hotel is located down the street from Navy Pier. On a nice summer day, it would be a nice walk. But if you don’t feel like walking, you can take the Navy Pier Trolley, which is located about a block from the hotel. We haven’t been on the new Ferris Wheel since it has been opened so we thought it was the perfect time to check it out and to take in all of Chicago.

Thank you Kimpton Palomar for the fun staycation! All photos and opinions are my own. For anyone planning a visit at the hotel in March and April, you can use the code “SPRING SOCIAL” for $20 off parking.
