Let’s Eat! Lunch at Parson’s Chicken & Fish

Happy Labor Day weekend! Although Labor Day seems to be the unofficial end of summer for some, it’s still summer for me until the Fall Solstice starts on September 22nd.  So from now until then, I will be sharing more of what I did during the Summer of Leyla!

We’ve always wanted to go to Parson’s Chicken & Fish in Logan Square since it opened a few years ago for its open patio and fried chicken, of course. But every time we would go, there was a two hour wait. So we would shake our heads and head back to our car to find another place to eat. On a particular occasion, the hostess said to get there when they open at 11 AM since there won’t be a wait and there would be plenty of room for kids to run around.

So a few weeks ago, Charlie and I took a few days off of work before Luke started kindergarten and met my friend Nicole and her girls there for lunch. The hostess was right. We were the first ones there at 11 AM and were able to pick any table to sit at in the patio (beer garden)! The place didn’t start filling in until noon.

We all shared the hush puppies and cheese curd fritters (so good!). I didn’t get a chance to take pictures because we devoured them before thinking about taking pictures.  I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with house-made potato chips, which was delicious. I also ordered and enjoyed a few cocktails before noon because you know…it’s the Summer of Leyla.

The kids played table tennis afterwards and ran around the patio since we seemed to have the place to ourselves.

As much as I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram, I have to thank the app for introducing me to like-minded individuals who have now become my friends. Nicole and I met on Instagram a few years ago. We have met up a few times throughout the years and have talked about getting our kids together. We were able to finally do it a few weeks ago. Although it took our kids awhile to warm up, I’m hoping we can do more of these meet ups.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to get together with friends, especially after having a kid, but I am trying my best this year to meet up with friends so our kids can spend time together and we can spend time together.

We hope to be back at Parson’s Chicken & Fish before the weather gets colder. Not only is the ambiance fun, it’s also a very Instagrammable and “bloggable”. Don’t you think?
