The first time I heard the word “lagniappe” (lan-yap) was when I first moved to New Orleans. People told me it meant something extra. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary’s definition of the word is “a small gift given to a customer by a merchant at the time of a purchase; broadly: something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure.”
I’m putting my own spin to the use of the word lagniappe and sharing a few extra things going on in Chicago every month – Leyla’s Lagniappe.
