2015 Recap: My Favorite Pictures of Luke

I didn’t blog for most of the year but that didn’t mean that I wasn’t busy taking pictures of Luke. Looking back, I wish I did because we had so many adventures. 2015 started out with a few snow falls, which is so fun to shoot and watch Luke enjoy the magic of snow. Thankfully the weather warmed up for St. Patrick’s Day weekend so we could enjoy the Chicago River being dyed green.

We also went on vacation to France but I wanted to post some of those pictures in a separate post.

It’s always so interesting to see how my photography and editing has changed over the years. I am still my own worst critic and most of the time, I wish I can do a do-over for some pictures. For the past two years, I’ve been asked by friends and family to take portraits of them. I always say yes because I think it’s such an honor that people ask but at the same time I’m scared the pictures won’t turn out well. I have to remind myself that I’m not a professional photographer. That this is my hobby. That I’m still learning. And…I’m not charging for these portraits.  One day, I will post those family portraits.

My 2016 resolution is to continue to take pictures and stop doubting myself. A great picture is sometimes not planned. I just seems to happen. And…to post to the blog more often!!

    OH!! The first one of him shoveling snow needs to be in some ad for Chicago!! And you hugging him on St. Patrick’s Day… LOVE! I’m telling you. It’s a lot of work, but I am SO glad that I have a disciplined outlet for capturing and sharing pics of Maya and me, and I know you will too!!! I’ll happily stay up late and pay the hosting fee into perpetuity for the memories, because goodness knows I’m too lazy to PRINT out any of these images!!! ;{

    I know I’ve said it before, but I feel like my best images with M are when I’m trying the least, which of course pisses me off! I just need to get used to the fact that I’ll never be one of those beautifully curated people. I have all the ideas, but fail miserably in making them come to fruition, because I run out of time or Maya is having NONE OF IT haha. All that to say. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Try to just have fun, and good images will come… 🙂 You already have proof of that!! It’s so hard though, when your standards for yourself are so high (speaking as the pot to the kettle ha!). Totally get that… I am still incredibly critical of a lot of my images, and oddly people still pay me…haha. You take AMAZING images!! Totally rambling now, but…I for one want you to keep at it, so I can see all the amazing images through YOUR eyes.

    Happy New Year!
    xx

      Your comment just made me laugh out loud!! You are so funny and I really think we would be hang out friends if we lived in the same city. Thank you so much for the support. I truly appreciate it. When I see other people’s pictures so beautifully taken, I look at mine and say..meh. But I need to let those insecurities go. And just let Luke be and take pictures when he’s ready. Oh..so much easier said than done.

    I should change up my comments every now & then, but for the millionth time, I’ll say it: your pics of Mr. Luke are too good. (Doesn’t help that he’s the cutest kid threenager.) I, for one, would be SUPER stoked if there are more Leyla Posts! #truestory #moremore 😀
